Flooring Calculator: Plan Materials and Installation

Start with your floor area and material choice, then connect the result to room transitions, removal and subfloor preparation.

Use the calculator

JavaScript runs this calculator. Send your measurements for a project review.

What should you measure?

Measure each area

Record room length and width in feet. Split an irregular room into rectangles, include closets and add the areas once.

Separate floor area from material allowance

For example, 12 × 10 ft plus a 4 × 3 ft closet gives 132 ft². Material allowance is added to the measured area. If a selected allowance is 10%, that example becomes 145.2 ft² before package rounding.

Check the package coverage

Use the coverage printed for the selected product. Divide the required material area by that coverage and round up to whole packages.

List work beyond the material

Include removal, disposal, stairs, transitions, trims and subfloor preparation in the installation scope.

What makes installation ready?

Existing floor and subfloor

Review the current layers, flatness, damage and moisture conditions with the installer and the selected product instructions.

Doors, cabinets and transitions

Check finished floor thickness at door openings, appliances, stair edges and adjoining rooms before selecting the installation detail.

Product and room conditions

Confirm acclimation, substrate and installation requirements for that actual flooring system.

Review the complete scope

Bring measurements, flooring samples and room photos. Your price and schedule depend on the selected materials and preparation work.

Bring your result into the project

Save the calculator result and the assumptions you entered. Add room photos and the problems you want to solve.
