Temperature changes: note whether the change happens at one fixture or throughout the property, during simultaneous use, at low flow, or after another appliance starts. A fixture, demand pattern, recirculation setting, scale, control, or equipment condition may be involved.

Low hot-water flow: compare hot and cold flow at more than one fixture. Filters, fixtures, piping, service valves, water quality, demand, and unit operation can all affect the result. Do not assume the heat exchanger is the cause without testing.

Ignition, venting, or condensate concerns: gas equipment may need a review of visible venting, combustion-air conditions, condensate routing where applicable, controls, and ignition-related components within the approved scope. Do not remove the cover, clean a burner, open venting, disconnect power, or repeatedly reset a gas appliance to troubleshoot it yourself.

Gas or electric tankless

Gas units may require adequate fuel supply, combustion air, listed venting, condensate handling, and safe service access. Electric tankless equipment can require substantial electrical capacity and dedicated circuits. Existing utilities must be verified before a model is proposed.

When replacement may be stronger

Replacement deserves comparison when heat-exchanger or internal-body problems are confirmed, failures repeat, critical parts are unavailable, repair value is poor, capacity no longer fits, or the owner wants a supported technology or feature change.
