SIDING PLANNING TOOL / CSLB #1117562
Siding Cost & Materials Calculator
Estimate a siding planning quantity and budget from measured wall area, material, stories, access, trim, and selected scope options—then see what a contractor must verify before the number becomes a written proposal.
10% planning allowance
The calculator adds 10% to the entered wall area before applying the configured material, story, access, and scope factors. Selected trim and wall-system options are then added separately.

How the calculator assembles the planning result
Inputs verified against the live calculator on July 23, 2026. Rates are current US Construction & Remodeling Corp. operational planning inputs. They are not a third-party market survey, guaranteed price, or substitute for a measured written proposal.
1 · Planning area
Entered wall area × quantity × 1.10. The 10% allowance helps cover cuts and normal planning waste; product-specific ordering still requires a takeoff.
2 · Material base
Vinyl $16, engineered wood $22, fiber cement $20, or wood $24 per waste-adjusted square foot before scope, story, and access factors.
3 · Complexity factors
Scope: new installation ×0.92, replacement ×1.00, partial ×1.08. Stories: ×1.00/1.12/1.24. Access: ×1.00/1.10/1.22.
4 · Options & range
Trim $16/ft; house wrap $1.20/waste-adjusted sq ft; insulation board $2.10/waste-adjusted sq ft; paint $5/measured sq ft; tear-off $3/measured sq ft; permit allowance $450. Result range: ±15%.

MEASURED EXAMPLE
A 1,000-square-foot fiber-cement example
1,000 sq ft × 1.10 = 1,100 planning sq ft
1,100 × $20 = $22,000 estimated total
Displayed range: $18,700–$25,300
Adding standard access, trim, house wrap, tear-off, paint, insulation board, a permit allowance, or difficult conditions raises the result. A written proposal should show which of those items are actually included.
WHAT THE FORM CANNOT SEE
Six checks before relying on the result
Confirm whether the input is gross or net area, how gables and openings were treated, and whether quantity represents one house or repeated matching areas.
Identify the existing cladding, number of layers, fastening surface, visible damage, demolition method, disposal, and what must be opened before concealed conditions can be confirmed.
Coordinate WRB, flashing, kick-outs, windows, doors, penetrations, decks, roof-to-wall intersections, drainage paths, and repairs as one wall assembly.
Measure trim separately and specify corners, openings, utility blocks, transitions, factory finish or field paint, preparation, coats, cut-edge treatment, and touch-up.
Tall walls, slopes, tight side yards, landscaping, utilities, staging, lifts, occupied areas, and limited material access can materially change labor and protection.
Verify permit, planning, historic-review, inspection, product-documentation, cleanup, change-order, warranty, and closeout requirements for the address and scope.

HOMEOWNER QUESTIONS
Siding calculator FAQ
The calculator estimates a planning quantity and budget from the wall area, material, project scope, stories, access, trim length, and selected options. It adds a 10% planning allowance to the entered wall area, applies the configured material and complexity factors, adds selected options, and displays an uncertainty range of 85%–115% of the estimated total.
The current configured material inputs are $16 per waste-adjusted square foot for vinyl, $22 for engineered wood, $20 for fiber cement, and $24 for wood. These are US Construction & Remodeling Corp. operational planning inputs—not market averages, material-only prices, or binding quotes. The calculator can also add trim, house wrap, insulation board, paint, tear-off, and a permit allowance.
Enter measured exterior wall area, not interior floor area. Measure wall sections and gables, then decide whether your figure is gross area or already subtracts large openings. The calculator applies a separate 10% planning allowance, so do not add the same waste twice.
A calculator cannot confirm hidden rot, sheathing or framing damage, multiple existing layers, hazardous-material controls, complex flashing, product-specific requirements, difficult staging, historic review, or exact permit and inspection conditions. A measured site assessment and written scope control the actual proposal.
The City of Sacramento lists siding among work that requires a permit. Its current plan-check table says residential siding generally does not require plan review, while commercial siding does. Permit, planning clearance, historic review, and plan review are separate questions, so verify the address and scope before demolition.
Compare written proposals that identify elevations and quantities, exact products, demolition, disposal, substrate review, repair pricing, water-resistive barrier and flashing details, trim, finish, access, permit responsibility, inspections, cleanup, exclusions, change orders, and written warranties.
No. The result is an early planning estimate. It is not a bid, contract, permit approval, inspection result, engineering decision, warranty, financing offer, schedule commitment, or acceptance of a project.
