Repair before covering the wall

What happened when we found damaged wood?

Removing the old siding exposed damaged wood. The homeowner approved the additional repairs before we started.

  1. 01 / Check the exposed wall

Address damage before installing new siding.

We repaired 11 damaged wood members before installing the new plywood and siding.

  2. 02 / Prepare the wall base

Install new plywood over the repaired wall.

We installed 15/32-inch APA Rated Sheathing plywood. The sheathing inspection approval was confirmed on September 23, 2026.

  3. 03 / Manage water

    Add house wrap and flashing.

House wrap forms the weather-resistive barrier over the plywood. Flashing helps direct water at accessible window and door details, transitions and penetrations. The existing windows stayed in place.

  4. 04 / Finish the exterior

    Install the siding and trim.

We installed James Hardie lap siding with compatible trim, joint flashing, fasteners and sealant around openings and corners.

Water management

What protects the wall behind the siding?

House wrap covers the plywood, and flashing helps direct water away from openings and joints.

With the old siding off, we could inspect and repair the exposed wall. We then installed the plywood, house wrap and flashing at accessible details before adding the new siding.

At your home, we check the existing siding, visible damage and window details before preparing the estimate.

Planning your siding replacement

What would the work involve at your home?

The estimate starts with the walls you want to renew, the existing condition and your preferred finish.

Can you replace siding on several walls or the whole home?

Yes. We review individual sides, multiple walls and full-home replacement. Your estimate identifies the included walls and how the new siding connects to the remaining exterior.

What happens if damaged wood is found?

We show you the damage and discuss the repair before starting the additional work, as we did on this Sacramento home.

Does every siding project need new plywood?

This project included new plywood. At another home, the sheathing work depends on the existing wall assembly, its condition and the planned replacement.

What should I send for a siding estimate?

Start with your property ZIP code and the walls you are considering. In the next step, add your contact information and any known damage or preferred timing. Exterior photos can help with the site review. Your price depends on your scope and site conditions.
